Albuman is an albumin solution.
Albumin is a normal constituent of blood plasma. Albumin is in our bodies to maintain our blood circulation. Albumin can bind with water. If the concentration of albumin in the blood is higher than outside the blood vessels then water will be drawn into the blood vessels. In this way, the blood circulation can be regulated.
In addition, albumin has a transport function. It carries various substances in the blood. These could be substances naturally produced by the body such as hormones and enzymes, but also substances foreign to the body such as medicines and toxins.

When is Albuman used?
If, due to the loss of blood or the expansion of a blood vessel, blood circulation to the tissues is diminished, Albuman can be administered to restore the circulation. This can for example be done during an operation, in the case of serious burns or blood poisoning.

How is Albuman used?
Albuman is administered into a blood vessel via an infusion (intravenously).
To ensure that neither too much nor too little Albuman is used, the patient’s blood pressure, heart function and breathing must be checked regularly.

What dosage of Albuman is administered?
The physician determines the dosage of Albuman. The correct dosage depends on:
- the patient’s weight;
- the patient’s height;
- the seriousness of the trauma or disease.

How is Albuman administered?
- If it is stored in the refrigerator, it should be allowed to come up to room temperature.
- The solution is clear and has a yellowish color.
- Do not use any solution that is turbid or contains deposits.
- Dependent on the dosage, more than one vial may be used.
- Albuman is administered intravenously to a patient via an infusion system.

What are the side effects of Albuman?
Albuman can cause side effects, in the same way as all other medicines. Not everyone suffers from these side effects.

Not to be used after the expiry date
Do not use Albuman after its expiry date. This is stipulated on the label (on the vial) and on the box.
